About the Midwives

All midwives are registered with the College of Midwives of Ontario. The College is the regulatory body, which sets professional standards and ensures quality of services.

I was born in Edmonton, Alberta and moved to the Ottawa area at a very early age. It was in Ottawa that I received the majority of my schooling through the high school level. In 1992, I moved to Kitchener, Ontario to open an automobile dealership with my spouse.

I returned to school as a mature student and studied my Honours degree in Psychology at the University of Guelph and furthered my education in the McMaster Midwifery Education Programme. I first practiced Midwifery in the Ottawa and surrounding area. In order to further my experiences in different communities, I relocated to Southern Ontario and was blessed with the opportunity to attend many home births along with hospital births. I moved to Brockville in 2008 to open a midwifery practice in this area that is known for it's wonderful people and beautiful scenery.

I am married with six children and 8 grandchildren. Most are now grown and are beginning their own life journeys. Four of my sisters live in the Ottawa area while my two brothers still live in Edmonton.

I am very excited to be practicing midwifery in Brockville and the surrounding areas. I have privileges to practice Midwifery at the Brockville General Hospital and am thoroughly enjoying working with the Obstetrical team at the hospital.

A little about myself.......

I originally come from Peterborough but have made many places my home and have had the opportunity to travel the world.   I’ve finally put down roots here in Eastern Ontario with my husband, son, and a new little one on the way.
Before entering into midwifery I received my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in order to prepare myself for a career in health care.  I have always been passionate about Women’s Health Issues and wanted to find the perfect calling.  I then started hearing more and more about midwifery in Ontario, and the philosophy of care and general ideal of midwifery struck me, and felt right.  I graduated from the Midwifery Education Programme at  Laurentian University in 2006 and have been practicing in this area since then. I have been so fortunate to have worked in rural Eastern Ontario as a midwife for the last five years.  I thoroughly enjoy my work with women and their families, and offering women the opportunity to take charge of their bodies and their birth experiences.   I also enjoy teaching and mentoring students here in Ontario and also teach regularly in Nunavut.  And, of course, I love catching slippery new babies!  Who wouldn’t??

I have had such wonderful experiences with so many families in the area.  My heart is truly full!

Jo-Anne Hache

My name is Jo-Anne Hache and I am very excited to have joined the Leeds Grenville Midwifery Practice here in beautiful Brockville / Smiths Falls.  Let me tell you a bit about myself…….

I was born in New Brunswick but lived in various places growing up as a child in a military family.  I moved to Ottawa right after high school and started my family.   I have three wonderful children – 2 boys and a girl in the middle.  While my children were growing up I was a mostly stay at home mom, doing in home babysitting, volunteering in the schools and as my children got older, volunteering with programs that helped new immigrants and teen mothers – a special passion of mine.  My children, now all adults, were all born in the Ottawa area but by choice we lived in many different places as they were growing up such as Ottawa, Halifax, Dallas, Texas, Germany and San Jose, California.

Unexpected changes in my life led me to the decision to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a midwife so in Sept 05 I enrolled in the Midwifery program as a mature student.  It was a challenging, rewarding and self satisfying experience. As part of the program I did placements in such places as St. Jacobs, Kenora, Owen Sound, Kitchener, Bracebridge and Fort Smith NWT.  Each placement was unique, every client an individual and each experience invaluable in my learning as a student midwife.  Being placed in a number of different placements with a number of different midwives and health care professionals broadened my knowledge base and gave me an opportunity to explore different ways of practicing.

I graduated this spring and am excited to now start practicing with the Leeds Grenville Midwives.  I have learned so much from the various people I have worked with and look forward to now using that knowledge to practice midwifery in the beautiful Brockville / Smiths Falls area.  I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and I’m excited to start this new chapter in my life with the wonderful people in this beautiful part of Ontario.
